Re: How do I Switch the Reservoir on the PS Pump
Thanks. I have ordered in a new high pressure line from the pump to the hydroboost. I have given up getting it off with anything that will preserve the line. I figure cut the line and use a six point socket with a breaker bar. The upper fitting came off no problem. The new line should be in tomorrow...

How do I Switch the Reservoir on the PS Pump
I have a re-man PS pump w/o the reservoir, so I need to switch the reservoir from the old pump to the new one. I have not got the pump out yet since the high pressure line does not want to come loose from the pump, but when I do get it out I would love to have a better idea how the switch the reserv...

Re: Replacing 97 Astro Power Steering pump
I am pretty much at the point of giving up on getting the high pressure hose off the pump without cutting the pipe so I can put a socket on it. Right now it seems all I have achieved is to start to round off the edges of it. Even soaking it repeatedly in PB Blaster doesn't seem to make any differenc...

Re: Replacing 97 Astro Power Steering pump
I just ran into the thing that has frustrated me more times than I wish to count. After giving up getting the clutch fan off, I was going to remove the high pressure hose from the PS pump. I need a 16mm wrench. In all the wrenches I have, I do not have one 16mm wrench. I have 15mm and 17mm and a wh...

Re: Power steering pump on 2000 AWD astro van
I have to get the upper rad hose out of the way to get a good swing with the hammer. It was getting too dark to see if the strap wrench was on well also, so hopefully with light and getting that hose tied out of the way, I can get a few good swings with the hammer and get it moving.

Re: Power steering pump on 2000 AWD astro van
If it was only $20 here I would probably have purchased the reservoir, but it is going from $45 for the pump to $85. A little aggravation is worth it for me. I am more annoyed on my '97 that I can't seem to get the fan off. I am doing the strap wrench thing, but it won't budge at this point. I did g...

Re: Replacing 97 Astro Power Steering pump
I knew I needed to remove the pulley, but what a read here they were removing the PS mount bracket then removing the PS pump from it. Looking at the space I have, especially when I get the fan out of the way, it looks like I can get the pulley off while the PS pump is still attached to the bracket, ...

Re: Which Power Steering Pump to Get
Looking at the various options in PS pumps and I find that it is not only the with or without reservoir, but also whether it includes the EVO or not, which I assume means if it does not you use the EVO currently on the system. So what sold I order. The least expensive option is without the reservoi...

Re: Replacing 97 Astro Power Steering pump
I finally found some time to start pulling stuff apart. Got the upper shroud off, that was a pain as a couple of the nuts or whatever the bolts go into, were rusted, one to the point I needed to put a vice grip on it to keep it from spinning. Now that I can see things better, I see there is fluid wh...

Re: Replacing 97 Astro Power Steering pump
So it is necessary to remove the whole bracket on a 97, or can one remove the pulley while the pump is attached so they can just remove the pump thus avoiding several steps listed here?

Re: Brakes and Steering Issue
Topped it up, still no power. I have not been able to find a leak yet, but have not had much time to look. I am expecting the worst with a PS pump having gone bad.

Re: Brakes and Steering Issue
Got out this AM to have a look. The belt looks fine and the tension seems to be proper. However, the Power Steering reservoir is way down, just showing 1/4 inch or less on the dip stick.

Re: Brakes and Steering Issue
Ok, that is a place to look. Nothing seemed to be leaking, so a belt falling off would make sense although I thought there was just the serpentine belt in the van. Hopefully it is clear to see once I can look in the light tomorrow.
