High tops?

Post by Archiev »

Thinking about putting a high top on my van. I was wondering if there are any structural mods I need to do to the roof before or after I have fastened it to the roof of my van

I don't know, but I will look at mine for you.I bought mine as a high top. It's Ole Yellar a 1985 high top.I am a little short of 6' and can almost stand straight up in mine.Right now that is all I got for you and I hope it helped a little.

Ive done a high top on a full size before but it had the swing out side doors. Thats why I was asking. With the slider I thought the roof might be different.

Ole Yellar is parked in storage and I will be picking it up tomorrow to use to move with.As I remember it,the roof cut isn't right at the edge of the roof. It's more like cut 2" to 6" in from the sides.I'll measure it if you like and post what I find.

BTW-the glass roof has been wooded with wood supports across the top.It stiffens the roof a lot.

I would appreciate that. I was planning on cutting about 6" in from the sides and putting a light wood frame around the opening. After that I was going to cover everything in heavy fabric.

My hightop is fully upholstered so I really can't get at any of the mounting points. I'd guess my roof was cut an inch or two in from the edge with the top glued and bolted down.

I've got pics of my ride when the top was off during the mod process. This was before I owned a digital camera so I make no guarantees [-X about being able to locate them. All of my digital stuff is on my hard drive.
