Cooling System Leak

Post by CaptSquid »

As you know, Klementine had a water pump and radiator replacement, as well as a complete flush about a year ago. Well, since then, I've been plagued by a persistent leak that was not readily apparent. I had taken her to Manny, Moe & Jack's to get the work done because:

1. I lacked the tools.
2. I lacked the time.

Anyway, they hadn't replaced the radiator cap, so I did. Maybe a bad move on my part, maybe not. But the new increase in pressure put even more pressure on the leak. Not good. I had to add more and more water. Until one day, at work, someone pointed out a puddle under the front end that wasn't there when I got to work.

Turns out that the shaft seal on the heater bypass valve was shot! I replaced the bypass valve (the H-assembly by the heater blower) at a cost of $45 (!) and haven't had the problem since. Now, all I have to do is add more Hide-her-nightie!
