Lost Reverse

Post by Cobra »

So my old man got the transmission in his 2003? (not sure why i can never remember what years his van is) flushed and now has no reverse. So i assume that something is blocking a valve would it be possible to just drop the valve body out and inspect/clean it or do you thing the problem is going to require a rebuild. i haven't gotten all the details from him yet so i don't know if there is any problem with forward gears yet but right now i'm assuming it only reverse that is the issue since he hasn't complained about any transmission problems until now.

You could drop the pan and replace the filter and see if there is crud everywhere. Maybe you will get lucky with fresh fluid and filter.

i spoke to my old man to get the whole story apparently the reason we went in to get work done is he said it felt like the transmission was slipping sometimes would rev high before shifting. Right after the flush it worked fantastic he proclaimed "it felt like a brand new truck" but after sitting over night there was no reverse in the morning. The guys at Green & Ross (the people who flushed it) said there was black specks in the oil and also told him before the flush that they DO NOT change the filter (wasn't clear if they said there wasn't a filter or they they just don't touch it he then said to me he's never seen a transmission filter) only flush. When he went back there to show them what happened they claimed that the transmission was probably failing and theres nothing they can do about it, gave him a phone number and told him to go there and if the shop determines it is their fault they would deal with it appropriately. He doesn't really pay attention to his van but he said it feels sluggish shifting up and sometimes revs really high before shifting, when i asked if it feel like it's skipping gears he responded with "it's possible" he also never said if the forward gears felt the same as before or not but he probably wouldn't know anyways so i'm not going to phone him again to find out.

It's funny he normally neglects his vehicle and he finally decides to try and take care of it and something goes wrong
